Aricept Used For
Aricept - Donepezil Hydrochloride is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate dementia of the Alzheimer type. Aricept can not cure Alzheimer disease nor will it be able to stop the disease from getting worse.
Directions for Aricept
The usual recommended dosage of Aricpet is 5 mg or 10 mg administered once a day. The medication should be taken in the evening, just prior to retiring, with or without food.
How Aricept works
Aricept might increase the effects of certain medication used during surgery or dental or emergency treatments and cause unwanted side effects. It may also cause some people to feel dizzy or drowsy, cause blurred vision or make them clumsy or unsteady. It is advisable to first understand your reaction to this medicine before driving, using machines or doing any task that might prove dangerous if performed in a semi-alert state or with blurred vision..
Side effects of Aricept
Like all other medicines, Aricept also has its side effects which include nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, vomiting, muscle cramp, fatigue and anorexia, insomnia, dizziness, depression, abnormal dreams, somnolence, constipation, drowsiness, fainting, frequent urination, headache, joint pain, stiffness, swelling, mental depression, pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, weight loss. In rare cases, it may also cause black-tarry stools, bloating, bloody or cloudy urine, blurred vision, burning, prickling or tingling sensations, cataract, chills, clumsiness or unsteadiness, confusion, cough, decreased urination, difficult or painful urination, dryness of mouth, eye irritation, high or low blood pressure, hives, hot flashes, increased heart rate and breathing, increase in sexual desire or performance, increased sweating, loss of bladder control, loss of bowel control, mood or mental changes. It is advisable to consult a doctor in case any of the above side effects get aggravated or persist over an extended period.

Aricept medication should be taken under supervision of a doctor. Aricept tablets may be split and taken at half the dose but only after advice from a doctor.
