Arimidex Used For

Arimidex is prescribed for adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women who have tested positive early for hormone receptor breast cancer. It is also prescribed for the first-line treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor positive or hormone receptor unknown locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer. Arimidex can also help treat advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women in whom the disease is progressing even after stamoxifen therapy.

Directions for Arimidex

The recommended dosage of Arimidex is one 1 mg tablet once a day. Patients with advanced breast cancer should be administered Arimidex till the time tumor progression continues..

How Arimidex works

Arimidex affects pregnancy and might harm the unborn baby. So it is necessary to ensure that women are not pregnant before starting them on Arimidex therapy.

Side effects of Arimidex

Like all other medicines, Arimidex also has its side effects which include chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling of feet or lower legs, back pain, body aches or pain, bone pain, congestion, constipation, cough, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, dryness or soreness of throat, feeling of warmth, fever, flushing or redness of skin, especially on face and neck, headache, hoarseness, hot flashes, increased appetite, loss of appetite and weight loss, mood or mental changes, nausea or vomiting, pain, general, pelvic pain, runny nose, skin rash, stomach pain, sweating, tender, swollen glands in neck, trouble in swallowing, voice changes weakness, increased blood pressure, tenderness and unexpected and heavy vaginal bleeding. It is advisable to consult a doctor if any of the above listed side effects get aggravated or persist over an extended period.

Arimidex tablets may be split and taken at half the dose, but only after medical advice.
