Casodex Used For

Casodex is prescribed for the use in combination therapy with a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) analogue for the treatment of Stage D 2 metastatic carcinoma of the prostate, known as prostate cancer in common terms.

Directions for Casodex medication

The recommended dose for Casodex therapy in combination with an LHRH analogue is one 50 mg tablet once daily (morning or evening), with or without food. Casodex dose timing should be kept the same everyday. It is advisable to start the combination treatment of LHRH analogue and Casodex at the same time.

How Casodex works

Casodex might induce loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and other problems like headache, muscle or joint pain or tiredness in many patients. Alcohol should be avoided while on Casodex since this might lead to unwanted side effects. This medication must be taken under medical supervision only.

Side effects of Casodex

Like all other medications, Casodex also has its side effects which include cough or hoarseness, fever, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, tightness in chest or wheezing, chest pain, shortness of breath or difficult or troubled breathing, constipation, decrease in or loss of appetite, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, impotence or decrease in sexual desire, nausea, swelling of breasts with pain or tenderness and trouble in sleeping. In certain patients, it may also produce uncommon effects like bloated feeling, gas, indigestion, confusion, drowsiness, dryness of mouth, flu-like symptoms, nervousness, bloody or black- tarry stools, and itching. It is advisable to consult a doctor immediately if any of the above listed side effects get aggravated or persist over an extended period.
