Celebrex Used For
Celebrex is prescribed for the treatment and relief from osteo arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis in adults.It is also used controlling acute pain in adults. It is also prescribed for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea and for the reduction of adenomatous colorectal polyps in familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP).
Directions for Celebrex
Celebrex dosage should be given depending on the condition of the patient and as per doctor's advice. For relief of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis the recommended oral dose is 200 mg per day administered as a single dose or as 100 mg twice per day. The recommended dose for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis is 100 to 200 mg twice per day. For the control of acute pain and dysmenorrhea, the recommended dose is 400 mg initially which can then be titrated to 200 mg. Patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) can be started on a 400 mg dose with food. These doses can be given without regard to timing of meals.
How Celebrex dosage works
Celebrex might lead to premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and cause damage to the fetus and so must be prescribed with caution in pregnant women. Celebrex may also worsen health conditions for patients suffering from kidney problems and dehydration. Patients with fluid retention, hypertension or heart failure problems should take to a doctor before starting on this medication. Celebrex is also not recommended among patients who are sensitive or allergic to aspirin or have asthma.
Side effects of Celebrex dosage
Like most other medications, Celebrex also has its side effects which include constipation, diverticulitis, dysphagia, eructation, esophagitis, gastritis, gastroenteritis, gastroesophageal reflux, hemorrhoids, hiatal hernia, melena, dry mouth, stomatitis, tenesmus, tooth disorder, vomiting, aggravated hypertension, angina pectoris, coronary artery disorder, myocardial infarction , allergic reaction, asthenia, chest pain, cyst NOS, generalized edema, face edema, fatigue, fever, hot flushes, influenza-like symptoms and pain. In rare cases, patients may also suffer from effects like herpes simplex, herpes zoster, bacterial and fungal infection, soft tissue, viral infection, genital moniliasis, otitis, leg cramps, hypertonia, hypoesthesia, migraine, neuralgia, neuropathy, paresthesia, vertigo, breast fibroadenosis, breast neoplasm, breast pain, dysmenorrhea, menstrual disorder, vaginal hemorrhage and vaginitis. It is advisable to seek immediate medical advice if any of the above listed side effects get aggravated or persist over an extended period.
