COMBIVENT INHALER - Ipratropium Bromide - Salbutamol Sulphate

Combivent Inhaler Used For

Combivent Inhalation Aerosol is indicated for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on a regular aerosol bronchodilator who continue to have evidence of bronchospasm and who require a second bronchodilator.

Directions for Combivent Inhaler

The standard dose of Combivent Inhalation Aerosol is two inhalations four times a day. Patients may take additional inhalations as required but should not exceed 12 inhalations in any 24 hour period.

How Combivent Inhaler works

Combivent Inhaler contains ipratropium bromide and, therefore, should be used with caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy or bladder-neck obstruction. Salbutamol sulfate should be administered with caution to patients with convulsive disorders, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes mellitus and in patients who are unusually responsive to sympathomimetic amines. The medication might also produce significant hypokalemia in certain patients and lead to adverse cardiovascular effects. Patients should avoid spraying Combivent into their eyes since this may result in precipitation or worsening of narrow-angle glaucoma, eye pain or discomfort, temporary blurring of vision, vision halos or colored images in association with red eyes from conjunctival and corneal congestion. Should any combination of these symptoms develop, a physician should be consulted immediately.

Side effects of Combivent Inhaler

Like all other medicines, Combivent also has its side effects which include headache, influenza, bronchitis, dyspnea, coughing, respiratory disorders, infection of upper respiratory tract, pharyngitis, edema, fatigue, hypertension, dizziness, nervousness, paresthesia, tremor, dysphonia, insomnia, diarrhea, dry mouth, dyspepsia, vomiting, arrhythmia, palpitation, tachycardia, arthralgia, angina, increased sputum, taste perversion, urinary tract infection/dysuria, skin rash, angioedema of tongue, lips and face, urticaria (including giant urticaria), laryngospasm and anaphylactic reaction. It is advisable to consult a doctor if any side effect listed above becomes aggravated or persists for an extended period.

Other Combivent Inhaler Information

The action of Combivent Inhaler lasts 4 to 5 hours or longer. This medication should not be used more frequently than recommended or indiscriminately. Dose or frequency of the medication should not be changed without consulting a physician.
