ELIDEL - Pimecrolimus

Elidel Used For

Elidel (Pimecrolimus) is an immunosuppressant that acts by decreasing the effects of the body's immune system. Elide topical is used to treat atopic dermatitis (e.g. eczema).

Directions for Elidel Cream

Elidel topical should be applied twice a day, about 12 hours apart, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Hands should be washed before and after each application unless the medication is being used to treat a condition on the hand. The skin should be completely dry before applying the ointment, especially after a shower or bath. A thin layer of Elidel should be applied to all skin areas that have been diagnosed as having atopic dermatitis or eczema and should be rubbed gently and completely into the skin.

How Elidel Cream works

Patient using Elidel should avoid sunlight and sun lamps, tanning beds, and treatments with UVA or UVB light. If it is necessary to go outdoors in the sunlight after applying the ointment, loose clothing that protects the affected area from the sun should be worn. At the same time, the area being treated should not be covered with bandages, dressings or wraps; only normal clothing should be worn over the treated areas.

Side effects of Elidel medication

It is not unusual to experience skin burning, stinging, itching, or soreness at the site of application of the Elidel. These are common side effects especially at the start of treatment and typically improve as the infections heal. Other, less serious side effects like irritation of nose and throat; cough; headache; diarrhea, constipation, upset stomach; or other skin infection is also likely to occur.

Other Elidel Pimecrolimus drug Information

Do not bathe, shower or swim right after applying Elidel as this would wash off the ointment. Elidel is for external/topical use only and should not be swallowed.
