ELOCON - Mometasone
Elocon Ointment Used For
Elocon (Mometasone) is a topical steroid that reduces or inhibits the actions of inflammation, redness, and swelling causing chemicals in the body. Elocon is prescribed for the treatment of inflammation caused conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis.
Directions for Elocon Mometasone Ointment
Apply a small amount of Elocon to the affected area and rub it gently into the skin. Areas such as armpits, knees and elbows where the skin creases may absorb more medication and so, the ointment should be applied with care in these areas. Also, eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes should be avoided.
How Elocon Ointment works
Never cover the area under treatment with plastic bandages, dressings, or diapers (occlusive dressings) that do not allow air to circulate unless directed to do so by your doctor. Such dressings can greatly increase the amount of drug the body absorbs and so should not be used for more than 12 hours at day, if used at all. Harsh or abrasive soaps, cosmetics or other topical medications should not be applied to the affected area without approval from the doctor.
Side effects of Elocon Mometasone Cream
Unless Elocon is being used to treat a hand condition, hands should be washed before and after use without fail. No serious systemic side effects are expected unless a large amount of (No Suggestions) topical is used for a long period of time. Some patients may experience blurred vision, halos around lights, an irregular heartbeat, insomnia, mood changes, weight gain, or fatigue. Less serious side effects that are more likely to occur include redness, blistering, burning, itching, or peeling. Prolonged use of the medication may also cause thinning of the skin, prolonged redness, and stretch marks. It is advisable to seek medical attention if any of the side effects get aggravated or cause undue discomfort.
Other Elocon Ointment Information
Do not use Elocon to treat any area of the body it is not prescribed for. This could be dangerous.
