Evista - Raloxifene Hydrochloride is prescribed for stopping and treatment of the onset of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women.

Directions for Evista Raloxifene

The recommended dosage of Evista is one 60-mg tablet daily. The drug can be taken at any time of the day without regard to meals.

How Evista medication works

Evista is not advisable for women who are lactating or pregnant or might become pregnant since its active ingredient might cause harm to the fetus including abortion and heart anamolies. When treated with Evista, women with hypertriglyceridemia might suffer from increased levels of tri-glycerides. It is advisable that such women be monitored for tri-glycerides during treatment with Evista. The drug may also increase incidence of hot flushes or flashes related to estrogen deficiency, especially at the time of start of therapy. Supplemental calcium and/or vitamin D should be taken with the therapy of this medication, especially if daily dietary intake is inadequate. Weight-bearing exercise and changes in certain habits like cigarette smoking and / or alcohol consumption is also advisable.

Side effects of Evista drug

As with all other medications, Evista too has its side effects which include headaches, flu like symptoms, leg cramps, hot flashes, nausea, diarrhea, arthralgia, rhinitis, bronchitis & increased cough. It is advisable to consult a doctor in case any side effect becomes aggravated or lasts for an extended period.

Other Evista Raloxifene Information

Evista tablets may be split and taken at half the dosage but only after medical advice. Patients on Evista should be forewarned against and should avoid prolonged restrictions of movement, especially during travel, since this may lead to an increased risk of venous thromboembolic events. Administration of this drug should also be discontinued at least 72 hours before and during prolonged immobilization like post surgery recovery, extended bed rest etc.
