Kenalog Used For
Kenalog (Triamcinolone) is prescribed to treat inflammation caused by a number of conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis.
Directions for Kenalog
Take a small amount of the ointment and rub it gently into the skin of the affected area.
How Kenalog treatment works
Avoid using plastic bandages, dressings, or diapers (occlusive) that stop circulation of air to the area under treatment unless otherwise directed by your doctor. The use of occlusive dressings can greatly increase the amount of drug absorbed by the body absorbs. If used, such dressing should not be used for more than 12 hours a day. It is also advisable to avoid using other topical medications, harsh or abrasive soaps or cosmetic products on the affected area without proper advice from your doctor.
Side effects of Kenalog
Kenalog generally does not cause serious side effects unless used in large amounts for extended period of time. If the drug is absorbed by the body, it may cause blurred vision, halos around lights, an irregular heartbeat, insomnia, mood changes, weight gain, fatigue, some redness, blistering, burning, itching, or peeling of the skin being treated. Other local side effects that may happen due to prolonged use include thinning of the skin, prolonged redness, and stretch marks.
Other Kenalog Information
Unless Kenalog is being used to treat a hand condition, hands should be washed before and after each application of the medication.
