Micardis Plus Used For

Micardis Plus (Telmisartan / Hydrochlorothiazide) is indicated for the treatment of hypertension - for lowering the blood pressure.

Directions for Micardis Plus

The usual starting dose of Micardis Plus is 40 mg once a day. Hydrochlorothiazide is effective in doses of 12.5 mg to 50 mg once daily. Micardis Plus tablets may be administered with other antihypertensive agents. The drug can be taken with or without food.

How Micardis Plus works

Do not take other medicines while on treatment with Micardis Plus unless they have been discussed with your doctor. This especially includes over-the-counter (nonprescription) medicines for appetite control, asthma, colds, cough, hay fever, or sinus problems, since they may increase blood pressure. Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur after taking telmisartan, especially if you have been taking a diuretic (water pill). Since the drug may leave you feeling dizzy, it is advisable to get yourself acquainted with its effects before attempting to drive a car or use complex machines. Consult a doctor immediately if the drug causes severe or elongated nausea and vomiting or diarrhea. These conditions might lead to extreme drop in blood pressure.

Side effects of Micardis Plus

As with all medicines, Micardis Plus also has certain side effects which include impotence, increased sweating, flushing, allergy, fever, leg pain, malaise, chest pain, palpitation, dependent edema, angina pectoris, leg edema, abnormal ECG, hypertension, peripheral edema, weakness, pancreatitis, jaundice (intrahepatic cholestatic jaundice), sialadenitis, cramping, gastric irritation, renal failure, renal dysfunction, interstitial nephritis, transient blurred vision & xanthopsia. Please consult a doctor immediately if any of the symptoms persist or become bothersome.

Other Micardis Plus Information

Micardis Plus tablets can be split and taken at half the dose but only after medical advice. A missed dose of the drug should be taken as soon as possible, but if it is time for the next dose, then the missed one should be skipped. Dosage should never be doubled in the anticipation of better or faster effects.
