Nasacort AQ Used For

Nasacort AQ (Triamcinolone) is a nasal steroid that is prescribed to help relieve the stuffy nose, irritation, and discomfort of hay fever, other allergies, and other nasal problems. This medication is also used to prevent nasal polyps from growing back after they have been removed by surgery.

Directions for Nasacort AQ

The recommended dose of Nasacort AQ for allergies or other nasal conditions for adults and children 6 years of age and older is one or two sprays in each nostril once a day. For children up to 6 years of age, the use and dose must be determined by your doctor.

How Nasacort AQ works

Patients on Nasacort AQ should inform their doctor if they have a viral, bacterial, or fungal infection of any kind since the medication can inhibit the body's ability to fight off infections. Nasacort AQ is not approved for use by children younger than 6 years of age. Patients should avoid items or activities that are known allergens, especially dust or pet fur that may aggravate condition. It is also advisable to stay away from people with chicken pox, measles, or any other type of infection since the immune system may not be strong enough to fight of an infection while you are on Nasacort AQ.

Nasacort AQ Side effects

As with all other medications, Nasacort AQ nasal spray also has its own side effects which may or may not include any or all of the following: stinging or burning of the nose, sneezing after application, yeast infection in the nose or throat (white patches), inflammation or irritation of the throat, bleeding nose, perforated septum (inside left of nose), increased pressure in the eye, glaucoma, tearing of the eyes, headache or lightheadedness, nausea, upset stomach, fever, cough, ear irritation or inflammation, nasal stuffiness or a runny nose, and/or unpleasant (or loss of) taste or smell. It is advisable to seek immediate medical help if any of the above side effects become aggravated or cause undue discomfort.
