Premarin Used For
Premarin (Conjugated Estrogens) is indicated in the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance in the absence of organic pathology & for short-term use only, to provide a rapid and temporary increase in estrogen levels, especially for women passing through menopause. It is also indicated for treatment of breast cancer in men & post menopausal women.
Directions for Premarin
Following are the recommended dosages for Premarin: For treating breast cancer in men & post menopausal women - 10 mg three times a day for at least 3 months. For controlling abnormal bleeding of the uterus - 25 mg injected (intravenous injection form) into muscle or vein and repeated in 6 to 12 hours if needed. The general recommended dosage for Premarin for other issues live ovary problems & prostate cancer is 1.25 mg to 2.5 mg once a day and three times a day respectively.
How Premarin drug works
When used in injection form, Premarin should be injected slowly to obviate the occurrence of flushes. Estrogens might lead to tenderness, swelling or bleeding of the gums. It is advisable to brush, floss and massage your gums & teeth slowly to help prevent this. Premarin might also increase chances of getting breast, ovary or uterus cancer and it is very important to regularly check breasts for any unusual lumps or discharge. Some post menopausal women might also have a recurrence of menopause, which will go away once the medicine is stopped.
Premarin tablets side effects
Premarin treatment is for short term only and it is necessary to take into account risks associated with the medicine, which include: breast cancer, cancer of the uterus, stroke, heart attack, blood clots, dementia, gallbladder disease and ovarian cancer. Warning signs of serious side effects include: breast lumps, unusual vaginal bleeding, dizziness and faintness, changes in speech, severe headaches, chest pain, shortness of breath, pain in legs, changes in vision, vomiting and hair loss. Other Premarin Information
Other commonly used names: DES, Fosfestrol, Oestradiol, Oestrone, Piperazine estrone sulfate, stilboestrol. Infusion of Premarin Intravenous for injection with other agents is not generally recommended. Do not split the tablet and take it in the existing form only.
