Reminyl Used For
Reminyl (Galantamine Hydrobromide) is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate dementia of the Alzheimer's disease.
Directions for Reminyl
Reminyl works best when administered twice a day, preferably with the morning and evening meals. The recommended starting dose of Reminyl is 4 mg twice a day (8 mg/day). Dosage should be increased to the initial maintenance dose of 8 mg twice a day (16 mg/day) after 4 weeks. If this initial maintenance dose is well tolerated, a further increase to 12 mg twice a day (24 mg/day), but only after a minimum of 4 weeks at the lower dosage. Dose increases should be based upon assessment of clinical benefit and tolerability of the previous dose.
How Reminyl works
Adequate fluid intake should be maintained during treatment with Reminyl. If therapy was interuppted for several days, it should be restarted at the lowest dosage and slowly increased again. Administration of the drug should be strictly as per the instructions supplied with the medication.
Reminyl side effects
Reminyl may cause loss of appetite, weight loss, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and chest pain. An overdose of the drug may also lead to cramping, defecation or urination, dizziness, drooling, fainting, increased sweating, low blood pressure, muscle weakness, seizures, slow heart beat, slow or troubled breathing, tearing of the eyes, watering of the mouth. Immediate medical attention should be sought in case of an overdose.
Other Reminyl information
Drug may be split and taken at half the dose but only after medical advice. Never store Reminyl in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places as heat or moisture may cause the medicine to break down. Always maintain adequate fluid intake with Reminyl.
