Timoptic Used For
Timoptic (Timolol) is a beta-blockers that is used to treat glaucoma or increased pressure in the eye.
Directions for Timoptic eye drop
Shake Timoptic eyedrops well before use. Apply one drop of the medication to one eye at a time while holding the lower eyelid down and looking upwards. Apply gentle pressure to the inside corner of the eye to stop the medication from draining down the tear duct. If more than one drop is needed to be applied to the same eye, do so with a 5 minute gap between drops. Repeat the process in the other eye if needed.
How Timoptic eye drop works
The tip of the dropper should not be allowed to touch any surface including eyes or hards as it is sterile and may become infected upon touching, which may then get transferred to the eye. Patients wearing contact lenses should remove them before applying this medication. Also, the time period to wait before reinserting the lenses should be confirmed with the doctor. Timoptic should not be combined with any other opthalmic medication unless otherwise directed by the doctor. Remember to inform your doctor/dentist you are using this medication before a procedure or surgery. Patients with asthma or a chronic lung disease, a very slow heart rate, heart disease such as high blood pressure, heart failure, or heart block; diabetes, or an overactive thyroid may require special dosage considerations or constant monitoring during treatment with Timoptic. Timoptic is known to pass into breast milk and may cause side effects to a nursing baby. Lactating mothers should not use this medication without proper medical advice and guidance.
Timoptic medication’s side effects
As with all other medications, Timoptic also has its side effects which may or may not include any or all of the following: an asthma attack (shortness of breath or wheezing), congestive heart failure (shortness of breath, chest pain, or anxiety), burning and stinging of the eyes; blurred vision that may last up to 5 minutes, headache, fatigue, and/or nausea. It is advisable to seek immediate medical attention if any of the above side effects get aggravated or cause undue discomfort.
Other Timoptic eye drop information
Timoptic must be stored at room temperature away from heat and moisture. The bottle must always be properly capped and once opened, must be used within one month.
