TOBRADEX - Tobramycin – Dexamethasone
Tobradex Used For
Tobradex (Tobramycin) is an antibiotic-steroid combination medication that is prescribed for the treatment bacterial infections of the eyes.
Directions for Tobradex eye drop
Shake the drops gently to be sure the medicine is well mixed. Apply 1 drop to the required eye and then keep gentle pressure on the inside corner of the eye to stop the liquid from draining away down the tear duct. If more than one drop is needed to be applied to the same eye, it should be done about 5 minutes apart. If any other eye medication is also being used, allow at least 10 minutes before application of the other medication.
How Tobradex eye drop works
If the symptoms get worse or if there is no improvement in the condition after a few days, a doctor should be consulted immediately. The dropper opening is sterilized and so should not be touched to any surface including hands or eyes as this may contaminate it and the medication, which may then be transferred as an infection to the eye. If the eyedrops become discolored or particles are visible in it, it should not be used. Tobradex should not be used if there is a viral or fungal infection in the eye and should only be applied to treat bacterial infections. Patients on this medication should use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities as they may experience blurred vision. If wearing contact lenses, the same should be removed while applying the medicine and should not be reinserted for at least 15 minutes after application, unless otherwise directed by the doctor. Other eye drops or medications should not be used during treatment with Tobradex unless otherwise directed by the doctor.
Tobradex side effects
Serious side effects are not expected to occur with the use of this medication. Some burning, stinging, irritation, itching, redness, blurred vision, eyelid itching, eyelid swelling, or sensitivity to light may occur.
Other Tobradex eye drop information
Apply light pressure to the inside corner of the eye (near the nose) after each drop to prevent the fluid from draining down the tear duct. Tobradex must be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle properly capped.
