Levocetirizine

Levocetirizine is a non-sedating antihistamine used to treat hay fever and hives. It works by blocking the effects of histamine, which causes sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, itchy or watery eyes, and skin rashes. Because it is less likely to cause drowsiness, levocetirizine is often preferred for daytime use.

You can use levocetirizine if you experience hay fever symptoms.

Do not take levocetirizine if you:

• Have severe kidney disease
• Have had an allergic reaction to levocetirizine or other active ingredients

Use with caution if you:

• Have kidney or liver disease
• Have urinary problems
• Have epilepsy
• Are pregnant or trying to conceive
• Are breastfeeding

Levocetirizine typically starts to work within 1 hour, and its effects last for up to 24 hours.

Common side effects include:

• Drowsiness
• Dry mouth
• Headaches

Less common side effects include:

• Abdominal pain
• Exhaustion

Seek immediate help if you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction such as:

• Swelling in the face
• Breathlessness
• Wheezing

Levocetirizine can cause drowsiness in some people. Exercise caution when driving or operating machinery.
