What is Xopenex and how does it work?
Xopenex is a rescue inhaler used to provide quick relief from symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), such as wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath.
It contains the active ingredient, levalbuterol, a bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles around the airways. This allows more air to flow into the lungs, relieving the symptoms of asthma and COPD.
How to use
How do I use Xopenex correctly?
To use the Xopenex inhaler correctly:
- Make sure the inhaler is primed before use.
- Shake the inhaler well, then take the cap off the mouthpiece and check for any foreign objects.
- Facing away from the inhaler, breathe out all the air from your lungs.
- Put the mouthpiece in your mouth and close your lips around it.
- Push the top of the canister all the way down while you breathe in deeply and slowly through your mouth.
- Hold your breath for 10 seconds or as long as is comfortable.
- If you need another dose, wait for 1 minute, then shake the inhaler well and repeat steps 3 through 6
